Witch Hazel is a shrub that grows wild in much of Eastern Canada and the U.S. American Indians were the first to discover the plant's medicinal properties; they boiled the leaves and stems to make anti-inflammatory ointments and dressings. The early Americans adopted this practice and used Witch Hazel to treat sores, bruises and swelling. Many over-the-counter medications still use Witch Hazel for this same purpose.
For skin care Witch Hazel is primarily an astringent, and it also contains flavonols and other antioxidants. It tightens pores and tones skin, helping to remove excess oil and speeding healing for dry or damaged skin. It helps in the prevention of acne and has been known to relieve eczema and psoriasis symptoms.
You'll find Organic Witch Hazel Extract in our Cacao Antioxidant Mask.
